All organisations must comply with the new Fire Safety order which
came into effect in late 2006
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order 2005 came into effect on 1st
October 2006.
Anyone responsible for premises must carry out and document a fire
safety risk assessment. This must be completed by a
competent person as detailed in the new
legislation. The Fire and Rescue Service will be carrying out regular
inspections. Failure to comply could lead to enforced action or even
prosecution. This is a major change in Fire legislation. The main change
is that responsibility is no longer that of your local Fire and Rescue
service authority. Fire certificates are no longer valid and It places
sole responsibility for fire safety onto employers and property users.
Is that you? The local fire and
rescue service is the enforcing authority and failure to produce a
written fire risk assessment where 5 or more persons are employed or
the property is licensed, constitutes an offence
under the workplace regulations.
